Learning

At our school, we teach the NSW curriculum and offer many different subjects to support each student’s learning. We know that development of skills in literacy and numeracy are the building blocks for learning and for everyday life. Our teachers use effective teaching strategies to help students achieve their goals.

Religion and ethics

A feature of the public education system in NSW is the opportunity to provide time in class for education in ethics, faith and morality from a religious or non-religious perspective at the choice of parents.

A parent/carer may at any time notify the school in writing that they wish to change their decision. Students will continue the same arrangement as the previous year, unless a parent/carer has requested a change in writing.

For more information about Special Religious Education (SRE) and Special Education in Ethics (SEE), including the list of approved providers, please visit: https://education.nsw.gov.au/teaching-and-learning/curriculum/learning-across-the-curriculum/religion-and-ethics

If your preferred SRE or SEE option is not available please contact the approved provider. Students not attending SRE or SEE are given supervised alternative meaningful activities.

At Point Clare Public School, the following options are available.

SRE Options:

  • Combined Scripture
  • Catholic
  • Bahai

  • Ethics (where available)

High potential and gifted education

At our school, we give the right support to help gifted learners to grow and do their best.

We notice these students early. They may learn quickly or show strong skills in creativity, leadership, problem solving or sport. We help them stay challenged with lessons and activities that match their strengths.

Our learning approach

Our school uses explicit teaching. This means we clearly tell students what they are learning, why it is important, and how to do it step by step. We use learning intentions (what we are learning) and success criteria (what it looks like when we’ve learned it) so students know exactly what they are working towards. Teachers model new skills, practise them with students and then give them time to try on their own with feedback. Explicit teaching helps students understand new ideas by breaking them into smaller parts and building confidence over time.

Learning at our school is student-centred, inclusive and practical. We are committed to equity and access. We support all learning styles and needs. Our teachers use proven, research-informed strategies such as explicit teaching, and take part in ongoing professional learning to stay up to date with best practice.
