Our extra-curricular highlights
School Band
At Point Clare Public School, students in Years 3–6 can join our vibrant school band program, with tutorials and rehearsals delivered in partnership with the Central Coast Conservatorium of Music. We operate both a Training Band and a Concert Band, and students perform regularly at school events such as Presentation Day, assemblies and community celebrations. Our bands also participate in annual Band Fests and have proudly received awards for their outstanding performances.
Debating and Public Speaking
Students at Point Clare Public School can develop their thinking, communication and teamwork skills through debating and public speaking. They learn to organise their ideas, consider different perspectives and speak clearly and confidently to an audience. Throughout the year, students may also represent our school in local and state competitions, building confidence, resilience and leadership while connecting with peers from other schools and showcasing their speaking skills.
PSSA Sport
Sport is an important part of school life at Point Clare Public School, where students are encouraged to be active, try new sports and develop teamwork, perseverance and fair play. Through the Brisbane Water PSSA network, they can participate in gala days and trial for representative teams in sports such as football (soccer), rugby league, rugby union, hockey, basketball, netball, softball and more, with skilled students progressing to Sydney North trials for higher-level opportunities. Whether playing for enjoyment, building skills or striving for representative selection, we aim to ensure every student is active, engaged and part of a team.
Choir
Our choir provides students with the opportunity to develop their vocal skills and enjoy singing as part of a group. Every second year, students participate in the Central Coast Choral Festival at the Wyong Art House, and they also have opportunities to perform in the Central Coast Showcase. Throughout the year, the choir contributes to key school and community events, including ANZAC Day, Presentation Day, PAN Night, assemblies and Christmas Carols. The program helps students build confidence, musicianship and stage experience while strengthening our performing arts culture.
Dance Groups
Our dance program provides students with opportunities to move, perform and express ideas through creative movement. Dance groups participate in the Central Coast Dance Festival at Laycock Street Theatre and perform regularly at assemblies, concerts, PAN nights and special school events. Students demonstrating strong potential are supported to audition for regional ensembles, where they work with specialist teachers and perform alongside students from across the Central Coast at state-level festivals.
Recorder Group
Students can join our recorder group, where regular tutorials help build strong foundational music skills. The ensemble performs at various school events and contributes to our vibrant performing arts program. Each year, students also participate in the Festival of Instrumental Music (FOIM), providing the extraordinary opportunity to perform at the Sydney Opera House alongside schools from across New South Wales. This program offers young musicians a rewarding pathway to develop confidence, skill and performance experience.
Trips and excursions
Students enjoy learning beyond the classroom through excursions that deepen understanding and connect learning to the wider world, including visits to local landmarks, museums, galleries, performances, natural environments and community facilities. As they move through the school, students may also participate in camps and leadership days that build independence, teamwork and resilience. Recent excursions have included Canberra, Point Wollstonecraft and the Bulgandry Aboriginal Art Site. All activities follow NSW Department of Education guidelines, with families informed in advance so every student has the opportunity to take part.
Peer Support Program
Our Peer Support Program helps students build friendships, strengthen connections and support one another across the school. Older students are trained to lead small groups in activities that promote resilience, kindness, problem-solving and positive relationships, with sessions involving games, discussions and cooperative tasks that encourage inclusion and respectful interactions. Peer leaders grow in confidence and responsibility, while younger students benefit from guidance from a trusted mentor. In 2026, leaders will continue working with the same students from 2025, allowing for deeper relationships and a stronger understanding of the program’s focus areas.
Chess Club
Chess Club is open to students from Kindergarten to Year 6 and provides a fun, inclusive way to build thinking skills and confidence. Students learn the rules and strategies of chess, practise good sportsmanship, and enjoy friendly games with peers of all experience levels. The Chess Club supports problem-solving, concentration, and perseverance and may offer opportunities to participate in school competitions or special chess events throughout the year.
Student Voice
We value student voice, supporting students to actively participate in decision-making about what shapes their learning and school experience. We want all students to thrive and demonstrate their personal best. We use Tell Them From Me survey data, along with student-led interviews, to better understand students’ perspectives and strengthen our school programs and practices.
